Vitamins B complex, minerals like magnesium, zinc and sulfur and a nutritious diet can promot hair growth and stop thinning and hair loss. Fruits rich in Vitamins A, C and E are beneficial for hair enhancement. Some foods that you can eat to grow hair are given below.

Following is a list of super healthy hair foods to bring in bounce and luster back to your hair and for fast hair growth. If you want to get rid of dry, greasy or dull hair, then eat these foods and see the difference.

  1. B-Vitamins: Vitamin B3, B5 and B6 : Foods rich in vitamin B include beans, peas, carrots, cauliflower, soy beans, nutritional yeast, bran, nuts and eggs. Take a vitamin B-complex supplement.
  2. Biotin: Biotin is an element, which helps to keep hair shiny and lustrous. Food sources of biotin include brewer's yeast, brown rice, bulgur, green peas, lentils, oats, soybeans, sunflower seeds, eggs and walnuts.
  3. Vitamin C: Vitamin C help promote scalp circulation which is important to maintain capillaries that carry blood to the follicles. Vitamin C guarantees efficient transition of oxygen to hair follicles. It also helps in the formation of collagen and promotes hair growth and prevents hair breakage.
    Include all colors of capcicums (bell peppers) in your diet as they are a great source of vitamin C.

  7. Zinc: Zinc may stimulates the immune function which can promote hair growth. Green peas are loaded with all types of minerals and zinc, iron and vitamin B, which help in maintaining the health of your hair and scalp.

Dry Hair Remedy

Dry hair may be due to hormonal reasons, use of hot hair dryers and heated rollers and perm. If you have dry hair, you may develop frizziness, split hair ends and dandruff in hair.

  1. Drink lot of water, about 8-10 glasses daily. Avoid drinks such as juices, coca cola, coffee, etc.
  2. Massage your hair and scalp with oil like coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil. This will prevent the loss of water.
  3. Do not shampoo your hair more than 2 times a week to prevent dryness.
  4. Condition your hair with a hair conditioner with natural ingredients. This will prevent hair breaking and split ends.
  5. Mix 1 tablespoon of honey in half cup of full cream milk. Massage on the scalp and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash with a mild shampoo.
  6. Combine 1 banana, 1 egg, 1/4 cup honey, about 3 Tbs of milk and about 5 Tbs spoons of olive oil. Massage on the scalp and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash with a mild shampoo.
  7. Zinc and essential fatty acids (pumpkin seeds, nuts, vegetable oils) are good for dry hair. Eating the foods rich in zinc help.
  8. Hair Rinse
    Mix 1 Tbsp of a herb (either of chamomile flowers, comfrey root, nettle, elder flowers) with boiling water and let it stand for 1/2 an hour. Add 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar and mix well. Shampoo your hair with this liquid.

Hairspray Hazards

Scientists in London, as reported in The Daily Telegraph (November 2008) found that women who come into contact with the hairspray products containing chemicals called phthalates during the first three months of pregnancy increased the chances of having a son with hypospadias, a genital deformity causing the urinary opening to be shifted beneath the penis. The study showed that taking folic supplements reduces the risk. An increased risk was only seen in women whose jobs led to high exposure to hairspray chemicals, such as beauty therapists, hairdressers, research chemists and workers in hair product factory.

Hair Care Myths

There are many advises about hair care that appear to be sound and worth to try, but actually they are nothing but myths. Following are some tips that are supposed to be true but are only myths.

  1. Myth: Trim your hair to frequently to grow them faster and denser. Whether you trim your hair or not, they grow half an inch every 4 weeks. Trimming split hair ends improves the look of your hair.
  2. Myth: Stress is the main cause of hair loss We daily lose about 100 hairs daily even in the absense of stress. However, you may lose more than this, if you are very stressed.
  3. Myth: Plucking out grey hair will grow more grey hair. Plucking grey hair may damage hair follicles and lead to infection on the scalp. But there is no connection between plucking and greying hair.
